ACANTO is an association for the study of group dynamics from a psychoanalytic point of view.
The association was born in Genoa in 1996 on the initiative of some psychiatrists who felt the necessity - expressed by many to study our knowledge of group phenomena in depth, to discuss them and to make an experience in a group.
This initiative joins together psychiatrists and psychologists working in different fields - local health units, University, private practice and having a different psychoanalytic training. They share however the common interest in groups and in the experience of group analysis acquired in the course of their training both in Italy and abroad.
ACANTO offers a point of reference to anyone who faced with the ubiquity of group phenomena is curious to study their dynamics and to anyone wishing to use the group as a work-tool.
ACANTOs activities take different forms since they are addressed to persons with different needs, due to their different training and interests.
We organise:
- Psychotherapy groups for neurotic patients
- Psychotherapy groups for psychotic patients
- experience groups, up to a maximum of eight members, addressed to anyone wishing to make a group experience for a better understanding of group phenomena. These groups are aimed at studying in depth the behaviour of group members and at learning from ones own emotional experience. They last 18 months and meet weekly.
- Training groups for teachers and for anyone involved in the organisation and management of human resources in the public and private sector.
- supervisions for anyone leading his own therapeutic group with the experience of a personal analysis.
- monthly scientific meetings.
- workshops, open to the public, usually divided into a theoretic-clinical part and a clinical material discussion, held twice a year.
Among the guests of the ACANTO workshops, we had: R. Barnett, M. Conran, D. Di Ceglie, R. Hinshelwood, A. Obholzer, S. Resnik.
