IL CERCHIO
Italian Group Analysis Centre

“Il Cerchio-gruppoanalisi” is an association of psychotherapist, psychoanalysts, physicians and psychologists. At the end of the seventies they were interested in research applied to small therapeutic groups, blending theoretical premises coming from Freudian and Kleinian psychoanalysis, from Jungian analytical psychology and, mainly, from Foulkesian group analysis.

This group of researchers, meeting from the beginning around Alice Ricciardi von Platen and Romano Fiumara, extended  its interests to the training of group analysts and the application of group technique in the non clinical sphere of training helping professionals, especially in national health service.

In 1982 C.I.G.A. (Centro Italiano di Gruppo Analisi) is founded and operates in clinical studies and in training. C.I.G.A. promotes many international events and scientific publications in monographic texts and in papers on accredited journals.

From early nineties Dr. Von Platen introduces in Italy the practice and research on large analytic group. Professor Leonardo Ancona, one of founders of group analysis in Italy, continues this clinical and theoretical traditions on large group and becomes President of the association.

Then C.I.G.A. is accepted in C.O.I.R.A.G. and participates to every event of the organization.

In 1999 members of C.I.G.A. with some members of S.I.P.A.G. (Società Italiana di Psicoterapia Analitica sui Gruppi) founded “IL CERCHIO-ONLUS” continuing the scientific and training aims of the two “mother” societies.

At present Il Cerchio with seventy members has its head office in Rome and has four territorial sections in Tuscany, Campania, Apulia, Sardinia. Mainly Il Cerchio ‘s aims are training group analysis for therapists, training of helping professional with group abilities, research on the applications of large analytic group.

The theoretical model implies an interpretation of society and a strategy of intervention both on conscious and unconscious levels, studying reciprocal interactions in different settings of small and large group.  The training courses, the scientific events and the experiential workshops develop in  all five regions.

From 2004 Il Cerchio founded in Rome, with the Fondazione Seragnoli, the “SCUOLA ROMANA BALINT ANALITICA”, whose mission is specific training of physicians and psychologists in the conduction of Balint psychoanalytic oriented  groups.
