Presentation of the magazine
by Franco Di Maria

A myth of foundation to help us again. Aqhna and Poseidon fight in Athens. It was the time when all gods wanted to get honours from humans (timaì), so Poseidon first to come in Attikh makes a sea (Erechtheis) flowing from a rock of Acropolis. The competition gets keen: Aqhna makes an olive tree growing from the holy rock right away.

Whom the honours belong to? Two the versions of myth. The first one, are the gods leaded by Zeus to solve the question; the second, is an Athens’ citizens court of justice to choose. Is Kekroy, former king, half human and half snake, human but still linked to horrifying creatures (unconscious nightmares) generate from primeval Earth, witnesses the contest. The requests of Poseidon are unacceptable, so a voting takes place, favouring Aqhna for one vote since women are superior in number just by one to men that prefer him. The vengeance of Poseidon is terrible: women would not take part in the life of polis as a punishment. Bu t is thanked to the victory of Aqhna that in the city grows the civilisation of institution, monogamy and the end of promiscuity.

So each foundation is at once beginning and end of a route, building of a limit, of a boundary and its crossing. The goal that Groups takes is all inside this complex and – in some ways – arcane passing through the limits, going beyond them.

Groups wants to be polis, that is place of foundation, but also agora, that is place of relationship, dialogue, elaboration. Not to be minimalist, but without preclusion too. Groups want to affirm the centrality of group in psychological culture, in the dimension of intervention, in the analysis itself of intrapsychic and inter-individual world’s evolution.

For this Groups does not only think of research or self-referring scientific culture, but especially of ability to dialogue with knots that cross uneasiness, social and individual, and in this way proposes the research of instruments to promote well-being, and spaces of citizenship for diversity and differences.

The group culture is, therefore, the picklock, the key to read the scientific and cultural hypothesis of the review. If the group may be considered the new frontier of psychological culture, then its culture looks to polysemical systems, to multidimensional research, to that paradigm of complexity which allows us to read differences and, most of all, to promote and enhance diversity.

The space for "dialogue" and "conversant" will be highlighted in each number of the review by a common theme, without taking space away to proposal of discussion and cultural notes, right because Groups wants to be the place where to found, project and make visible the interchange between the inter-individual and intrapsychic boards which analytical research has founded already. For this Groups will concentrate over problems of dialogue with the Other, different from Self, the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural dimension, the relation with new technique of research and intervention.

An example is this first number that rotates around the setting theme in the different and polyhedral articulation as place of meeting of mental spaces, but also the choice to host in Notes and discussion the associative map of C.O.I.R.A.G. and a first reading of a fundamentalism, the Mafia one, that moves between individual and community, psychic and relationship.

The risks we are taking? In a society that reads always less and that always less interrogate itself, but that always more produces writings, there is the risk to being overcame in the Babel of borgesian memory. Anyway, just like in that library, ambition may be that of building routes to find ways, indications, start points, clusters for research and intervention. A minimal ambition which was worth playing and bet.
